In June 2008 the Polish Internet Library (Polska Biblioteka Internetowa – PBI) – was transferred from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. At the behest of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, work on expanding the PBI has been spearheaded by the National Library.
The PBI was taken over in its entirety, together with its software programming and digital resources created in the years 2003-2007. The quality of the PBI’s digital resources have often been criticized by users, in particular as concerns mistakes in electronically produced texts, the absence of pages, and the lack of catalogue descriptions of documents. The National Library is exerting great effort to improve the quality of the PBI’s digital resources. Ultimately, the goal is to present as much as possible of the PBI’s resources in line with binding norms, and to join them with the Portal Europeana.
