The National Library has received the personal library of Professor Leszek Kołakowski (1927-2009) of the University of Oxford. In 2010, in accordance with Professor Kołakowski's will, his widow Tamara Kołakowska donated his manuscripts to the National Library, which have been catalogued; the printed catalogue is available online via the POLONA digital library.

Leszek Kołakowski was an outstanding philosopher and historian of philosophy. After the war he studied at the University of Lodz, then moved to Warsaw, where in 1953 he took up the Chair of the History of Modern Philosophy at the University of Warsaw. He also taught at McGill University in Montreal, Berkeley (California) and the University of Oxford. He was co-founder of the Warsaw School (Warszawska szkoła historyków idei).
