Julia Konopka-Żołnierczuk a member of the board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)

We are pleased to announce that Julia Konopka-Żołnierczuk, deputy director of the National Library of Poland, has been elected to the board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). It is worth noting that with 727 electoral votes she came second among 16 candidates.

Julia Konopka-Żołnierczuk is a graduate of cultural studies, specializing in Mediterranean civilization, from the Faculty of Artes Liberales at the University of Warsaw. She has been employed at the National Library of Poland since January 2016, first in the secretariat, and then combining the positions of Secretary of the Directorate and Head of the Secretariat. She was responsible for preparing the National Library's reports, including the annual one, coordinating the library projects and the proceedings of its Scientific Council. In the years 2017-2020, she served as the Director's representative for purchases and donations of library materials. Since 2021 she has been the National Library's deputy director. She supervises the process of making collections available, is responsible for international cooperation and the implementation of Priority 1 of the National Reading Development Program 2.0 for the years 2021-2025. In the years 2023-2025, she served as the Information Coordinator of the European Regional Committee of IFLA.

IFLA (The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) is an international, independent organization working for library associations, libraries and other institutions providing information services, as well as librarians, information workers and the communities these institutions serve. It was established in 1927 in Edinburgh (Scotland) and currently has 1,700 members (associations, libraries and institutions working on their behalf) from over 150 countries around the world.

It promotes high standards in libraries' activities and information services, protects and secures cultural heritage documents, raises professional standards and employee qualifications, and represents the interests of IFLA members in all countries. In Poland, IFLA members include the National Library, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology Library and the Polish Librarians Association.
