#ReadForReal / CZYTAJ.SERIO!

The Polish Universal Reading Foundation – Fundacja Powszechnego Czytania – together with six partners from across Europe, has won a Creative Europe programme grant for initiatives promoting reading. Together, they will launch the project CZYTAJ.SERIO! / #ReadForReal, aimed at enhancing reading skills and promoting European literature.
The international consortium consists of:
- Universal Reading Foundation (Poland) – lead partner
- National Library (Poland)
- Stiftung Lesen (Germany)
- CICLIC – Regional Agency for Books, Images and Digital Culture Centre-Val de Loire (France)
- Chetene (Bulgaria)
- Federation of European Publishers (FEP)
- EURead – a European network of organisations promoting reading
Together, they will carry out three core activities:
- Annual celebrations of European Authors’ Day (November 11 – December 12), including meetings with authors and other events in schools, libraries and bookshops
- Workshops for reading promotion leaders, strengthening European cooperation networks
- International "Literacy for Democracy" conferences, a platform for reflection and action
The #ReadForReal project emphasises inclusivity: all promotional materials will be publicly available and any institution, school or private individual will be able to take part. The initiative is based on successful campaigns such as Poland’s #TataTeżCzyta (#DaddyReadsToo) and Germany’s National Read Aloud Day.
"ReadForReal is an invitation to engage with literature and experience books in a shared, hands-on way – no intermediaries, no algorithms," the organisers emphasise.
Full details of the European Authors' Day celebrations will be announced in late summer 2025.
