Bibliotheca Baltica Symposium in Helsinki
The National Library of Poland invites librarians and researchers to take part in the 17th International Bibliotheca Baltica Symposium, “Reading, Libraries, and Cultural Sustainability”, which will be held in Helsinki on 5–6 November 2026. The event will be hosted by the National Library of Finland, while the sessions will take place at the historic premises of the Finnish Literature Society.
The symposium will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the role of libraries in promoting reading, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting cultural sustainability and development. The programme will include presentations and discussions on such topics as fostering a culture of reading, changing reading habits in the digital environment, librarians’ skills in the age of artificial intelligence, and supporting civic engagement.
Representatives of Polish institutions will also be among the speakers. One of the symposium’s keynote addresses will be delivered by Maria Deskur of the Universal Reading Foundation. The programme will also include visits to libraries in Helsinki. We encourage you to consult the detailed conference programme.
Registration is open until 28 October 2026. The participation fee is EUR 150 and includes the conference dinner on 5 November. Registration is available via the registration form.
