Representatives of the NLUSS Group Visit the National Library of Poland
On 20–21 October 2026, the National Library of Poland hosted representatives of the National Libraries’ User Spaces and Services (NLUSS) group, operating within the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL). The meeting focused on risk management, responding to threats and ensuring the continuity of library services.
The participants included Céline Ben Amar from the Royal Library of Belgium, Mariëtte Roelvink from the National Library of the Netherlands, Dorja Mučnjak from the National and University Library in Zagreb, Sandra Hamm from the German National Library, Gorazd Vodeb from the National and University Library in Ljubljana, and Caterina Guiducci from the National Central Library of Florence. The visit was coordinated by Dr Maciej Szablewski, the National Library of Poland Director’s Representative for International Affairs and Head of the Department of Collection Access.
During three sessions, participants discussed the challenges and risks faced by national libraries, ways of responding to them, and solutions for maintaining continuity of services for library users. The session on risk management was led by Mariëtte Roelvink, while Céline Ben Amar chaired a discussion on library operations during heatwaves. Dorja Mučnjak addressed issues related to the implementation of the Alma library management system and the importance of library platforms for users. The sessions provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss future plans for cooperation within NLUSS.
The guests visited the Palace of the Commonwealth and its exhibition of treasures from the National Library’s collections, as well as the modernised reading rooms and the conservation and digitisation workshops at the Library’s main building on Aleja Niepodległości. They also met with National Library specialists responsible for reading room services, training and interlibrary loans, learning about the solutions and working procedures adopted in these areas. The programme also included a walk through Warsaw’s Old Town.
