Director of the National Library at the 29th Meeting of the Conference of Directors of Academic Libraries of Polish Higher Education Institutions
On 24–25 September 2026, the 29th Meeting of the Conference of Directors of Academic Libraries of Polish Higher Education Institutions (KDBASP) was held at the Library of Bialystok University of Technology. Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library of Poland, took part in the first day of the meeting.
The meeting brought together library managers and representatives of the academic community from more than 60 institutions across Poland. The sessions were held at the Centre for Modern Education of Bialystok University of Technology, which houses the university’s Main Library.
On the first day, participants discussed the key challenges facing academic and research libraries. Topics included e-lending in Polish academic libraries, changes to the K-03 statistical form, university open access and digitisation policies, new e-services offered by OPI PIB, as well as changes related to research evaluation and the Polish Scholarly Bibliography. The programme also covered debt recovery procedures in libraries and library systems, including Alma, as well as the cyber resilience of higher education institutions in the context of Poland’s National Cybersecurity System and the NIS2 Directive.
On the second day, participants discussed staffing structures in academic libraries, the impact and potential applications of artificial intelligence in academic and research libraries, ongoing projects, and the library systems in use. The meeting concluded with a summary of the discussions and an invitation to the next edition in 2027.
During his visit to Bialystok, the Director of the National Library also visited the Jerzy Giedroyc University Library.
