New reading rooms at the National Library nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2024

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Awards are the most important prize for contemporary architecture in Europe. This year, 362 projects from 38 countries were nominated by the experts, including the modernisation of the reading rooms at the National Library of Poland.

The nomination for Europe's most important architectural awards is a great distinction. Nominations are made by architectural institutions and organisations, along with experts specially appointed by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe. The jury, consisting of Frédéric Druot (chair), Martin Braathen, Pippo Ciorra, Tinatin Gurgenidze, Adriana Krnáčová, Sala Makumbundu and Hrvoje Njiric, select 40 projects in January each year and then whittle this down to five finalists in February. This year's ultimate winners will be announced in April 2024.

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award is the most important prize for contemporary architecture in Europe. Founded in 1987, 14 years later it became an official EU prize, at the request of the European Commission.
