Craig Stuart Sapp (Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities at Stanford University, Narodowy Instytut Fryderyka Chopina) przedstawi referat Digitizing Piano Rolls in the Stanford University Libraries’ Archive of Recorded Sound.
Abstract:
Over the past several years, the Archive of Recorded Sound at Stanford University has collected over 15000 piano and organ rolls, starting with the Condon Collection of 7500 reproducing piano rolls and ten player pianos (https://youtu.be/TxPEmNvUNcs).
This collection provides an invaluable resource for the study and appreciation of piano performances from a time before acoustic recording technology had fully developed. This presentation covers archival scanning and digitization of Welte-Mignon "red" reproducing rolls from Stanford's roll collection.
Beginning in 1904, red rolls provide the first direct recordings of musical performances for playback on player-pianos. The oldest pianst to record on these rolls was Carl Reinecke (1824–1910) and the most popular composer to record was Fryderyk Chopin.
